The recent advancement of high-throughput molecular genetics technologies has had a significant impact on systems biology and bioinformatics. These technologies now allow for the highly parallel and integrated assessment of the expression profiles of genes and proteins. The analysis of the enormous amounts of genomic and proteomic data holds the potential for understanding the intricate relationships between genes and proteins, the operational procedures of a cell, and the effects of different factors on a cell, and ultimately for enabling the development of new technologies for intelligent disease management. The modelling and processing of data generated by bioinformatics, genomics, and proteomics utilising signal processing techniques is the main topic of this special issue. Signal processing techniques are significant because of their crucial role in the extraction, processing, and interpretation of the information present in genomic and proteomic data. We anticipate that the use of signal processing techniques will result in fresh discoveries and insights on the composition, operation, and evolution of biological systems.en_US
